The 2010 Panther girls team also had a great year last year. They either won or came in 2nd in most of their matches and competed well in all tournaments. They easily won the Metro Tournament and the City Tournament to take the City Championship for 2010. The team won their State Sectional Tournament to advance to Sub-State. The girls had a strong performance at Sub-State, with Janie Jackson being the low medalist with a round of 70 and advanced to State competition at Hampton Cove where they finished 6th. Janie Jackson had an outstanding year as an individual golfer winning most of her events including the State Championship for 6A in 2010!

Huntsville’s Janie Jackson won the 6A Individual State Championship for 2010! She put on quite the show in the second round of the AHSAA Class 6A girls state golf tournament at Hampton Cove. Janie began the final round three shots off the lead and in fourth place after gutting out a 77 in Monday's first round, but blistered the final 18 with a 3-under 69 to win by three shots. The three-shot deficit proved to be a small obstacle for Jackson, who put on a five-birdie barrage in the first nine holes in the second round on the Highlands course.

"I knew I was capable of coming back," said the sophomore. "I didn't play very well (Monday) at all. Today was a big turnaround. I'm glad I did. I was more consistent today. I made a lot of putts."

Jackson Lockhart finished in a close second for the 6A Individual State Championship for 2010. Jackson shot 66 in the final round and tied for the lead until Michael Johnson, who held the first round lead with a 67, used a birdie-birdie finish including a clutch putt to steal the win. Lockhart watched as Johnson rolled in the winning putt and took it in stride. "It was a great putt," he said. "I'm happy for him." Jackson said he left a lot of shots on the course in a first-round 70. "I didn't expect 66 today, though," he said. "I got it going early."

Lockhart’s rounds included an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys. Jackson's highlight was a 5-wood to within inches of the cup on the par 5 No. 15 for a tap-in eagle. "I'm proud of the way I played. I had nothing to lose going into today," Lockhart said.
