Both the Boys and Girls Teams decisively won their 2nd match and first tournament of the year. After the Monday match against Hazel Green High School at Colonial Golf Course was postponed until Thursday, both teams played outstanding golf against Florence High School at Blackberry Trail in Florence. The boys won by 26 strokes with an average score 1 stroke over par and the girls won by 37 strokes. The Panthers teams swept the North Alabama Invitational at Colonial on Wednesday with the girls winning by 26 strokes and the boys by 8. Janie Jackson was the medalist for the girls with a score of 72 and Walker Purvis and Dominic Smith both shot 74 for the boys with Walker finishing Runner-up on a score-card playoff. 3-16-2011: Results of Second Match and First Tournament
The boys team won their match against Hazel Green on Friday. The girls team lost by 8 strokes.
3-17-2011: Results of Hazel Green Match
The girls team easily won the Metro Tournament at the Ledges with Janie Jackson again claiming the top medalist prize with a par score of 71. Caroline Stephens finished 4th for the girls team after shooting 84. The boys team was not able to follow-up on their win at the North Alabama Invitational after finishing 3rd but still has a shot at winning the City Championship this Wednesday at Municipal. The girls have a big lead going into Wednesday and look poised to continue their great play.
3-21-2011: Results of Metro Tournament at the Ledges
The City Tournament was stopped early because of the potential for severe weather. The boys were able to finish nine holes; however, play was stopped for the girls before they reached the turn. All the partial scores were combined with Monday’s Metro Tournament to determine the All-City Teams. Congratulations go to Janie Jackson, Caroline Stephens, and Dominic Smith for making the 2011 All-City Golf Team!
3-23-2011: Results of the City Tournament at the Becky Pierce Municipal Golf Course
The matches tomorrow against Florence for the Varsity and Randolph for the Junior Varsity will now be played at the Becky Pierce Municipal Golf Course instead of Huntsville Country Club. This will be the first matches this year for several of our players on both the girls and boys teams. Good luck to all our teams in tomorrow’s matches!
3-23-2011: Location Change for Matches Tomorrow and First JV Matches of the Year
Both the Girls and Boys Varsity teams won their matches against Florence High School on Thursday at the Becky Pierce Municipal Golf Course. The girls won a landslide victory by over 50 strokes on the 9-hole match. They were led by outstanding play from Caroline Stephens with a 35 and Sarah Lauren Gregory with a 40. The boys team also easily won 151 to 183 with their best match score of the year. The boys were led by Blake Messer’s 35, Walker Purvis with 38, and Dominic Smith and Michael Karp with scores of 39.
3-26-2011: Results of Matches Against Florence High School
The Junior Varsity Boys easily won their first match of the year against Randolph High School on Thursday by a score of 162 to 179! The JV Boys were led by strong play from Andrew Brown with a 39 and Jonathan Seymour with a score of 40. The Junior Varsity Girls team played an exhibition match against since Randolph only had 2 girls available to play.
3-26-2011: Results of JV Matches Against Randolph High School
The Junior Varsity Boys and Girls teams competed in their first tournament of the year and the first school tournament for most of the players. While neither team finished in the top 3 for the tournament, they gained some valuable tournament experience sure to help them in the future. The boys team participants included: Andrew Brown, Miller Jackson, Brandon Honeywell, Kevin Butler, Nate Fleming, Johnny Komara, and Russ Quinlivan. Players for girls team included: Emily Lankford, Harper Stephens, Allie Ledford, and Meghan White. The next JV event is a match against Catholic High on April 7.
3-30-2011: Results of Lawrence County Invitational
Both the girls and boys team won their matches with Decatur on Thursday! The girls were led by Janie Jackson’s 35 and the boys were led by Walker Purvis with a score of 36. Decatur has very good golf teams, so this was an important win! The girls played the Grissom Invitational on April 1 and no fooling, they did not win. They finished in sixth place and Janie Jackson finished 3rd with a score of 75.
4-3-2011: Results of Decatur Matches and Girl’s Grissom Tournament
The boys play Monday at Valley Hill in the Hogan Vaughn Invitational, matches Tuesday against Hazel Green at Huntsville CC, and Varsity and JV matches Thursday against Bob Jones and Catholic High.
4-3-2011: Golf This Week
The boys and girls teams have both done great this year winning most of their matches and placing in most of their tournaments! Janie Jackson has played consistently well for the girls all year and Blake Messer has taken his game up a notch for the boys team in recent events.
It is hard to believe but the golf season is coming to a close. The boys have their Sectional Tournament next Monday at Decatur Country Club and the girls play next Tuesday at Huntsville Municipal. The Sectional Tournament is a 1-day event with the lowest 4 scores for the boys and 3 scores for the girls determining the winners. The top 4 teams and top 4 individuals not on those teams advance to the Sub-State Tournament. Please come out and support our teams!!!

Congratulations to both the girls and boys teams for advancing to the Sub-State round of the State Play-offs! The girls team won their Sectional Tournament at Huntsville Municipal after shooting a season low score of 233! Janie Jackson was low medalist with an outstanding score of 69! The boys team finished 3rd in their Sectional Tournament at Decatur Country Club losing to Decatur on their home course. The boys were led by Blake Messer with 76 along with Walker Purvis and Jonathan Seymour with scores of 77 and Andrew Brown with an 80. Both teams play next week at Cider Ridge in Oxford, Alabama for a chance to advance to the State Finals in Mobile the following week.
4-26-2011: Results of Sectional Events for Girls and Boys Teams
Congratulations to Janie Jackson for repeating as 6A Girls State Champion!!! Janie finished with a score of 3 under par to win by 1 stroke!!! The girls team had an outstanding year finishing 6th in the state.
6-4-2011: Results of State for Girls Team
The boys team had a tough day on a tough golf course at Cider Ridge in Oxford, Alabama. They were up against some really good competition including the defending state champions from Spain Park and the eventual state champions for this year from Mountain Brook High School. Blake Messer posted the best score for the team with a 77. Unfortunately, that was not quite enough to get him through to the state finals. It was a very good year for the boys team! They should have a strong team next year with all five players from Sub-State returning with good younger players to push the team to improve.

The girls team played outstanding golf on a tough course at Cider Ridge to qualify for the state championship!! Janie Jackson was low medalist with an unbelievable score on a brutal golf course.

6-6-2011: Summer Tournament Play for HHS Golfers
Team tryouts for both boys and girls will be held on August 30 and September 1 at Huntsville Municipal Golf Course on Airport Road. Tryouts will be held at 3:00 pm both days for nine hole rounds. Those wishing to try out can play either or both days. The cost is $15 for each nine hole round.
